November Artist: Ran Weber
RAN WEBBER has been painting for 45 years and has shown his work in numerous regional and national museum and gallery exhibits. His painting ideology for the current metaphorical series titled “Baptism in the Genesee” is about the process of: immersion, saturation, dissolution and re-invention. The process includes the immersing (soaking) of the initial painting in water, marking its baptism in place and time. This “baptism” in water at a particular locale establishes a unique historical signature for each painting. The piece is then crumpled, squeezed, dried and finally repainted with varying layers of paint. The intention of the process is to re-invent the original composition and allow elements of the process to reveal themselves. The resulting imagery might suggest geometric sculpture of ambiguous scale balanced within an ambiguous universe. These tempera paintings done on paper-bag paper are then folded and creased to destroy any obvious picture plane.
Ran’s work will be on display for the entire month of November.
